چکیده
This paper presents a hierarchical case representation using a context guided retrieval method. The performance of this method is compared to that of a simpler flat file representation using standard nearest neighbour retrieval. The estimation of construction costs of light industrial buildings is used as the test domain. Each case in the system has approximately 400 features. These are structured into a hierarchical case representation that holds more general contextual features at its top and specific building elements at its leaves. Problems are decomposed into sub-problems and solutions recomposed into a final solution. Comparative results show that the context guided retrieval method using the hierarchical case representation is significantly more accurate than the simpler flat file representation using standard nearest neighbour retrieval. q 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. Epsilon focusing--A strategy for active example selection
In most classical formulations of learning from examples, a passive learner is presented with examples randomly drawn. Here we discuss an-focusing strategy that actively choose examples for concept learning. We describe the local focused property that functions must have for such a strategy to work. Finally, we develop an example selection heuristic, motivated by-focusing, for training a comput...
متن کاملA light-weight Web-at-a-Glance system for intelligent information retrieval
Web-at-a-Glance (WAG) is a system to assist the user in information retrieval and discovery by gleaning the most relevant information from a web site or several web sites. This paper presents this new approach for intelligent information retrieval from web sites, and describes the prototyping of the light-weight WAG system as an active index system. q 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. متن کاملDiscovering user access patterns on the World Wide Web
The WorldWide Web provides its users almost unlimited accesses to the documents on the Internet. We suggest to use intelligent agents to assist users to locate documents related to their interests instead of browsing the Web via primitive search engines. We identify a number of key components in such intelligent systems and propose a system architecture. In particular, we have designed a learni...
